The UNDP Country Representative, Auke Lootsama has saluted the rank and file of RDF and national police who are on peacekeeping missions, particularly in Sudan and Haiti, for work well done though at times at a cost like the case of a police officer who died in Haiti recently.

The UNDP Country Representative, Auke Lootsama has saluted the rank and file of RDF and national police who are on peacekeeping missions, particularly in Sudan and Haiti, for work well done though at times at a cost like the case of a police officer who died in Haiti recently.Lootsama who was speaking at a dinner organized by the national commission on unity and reconciliation at Lemigo Hotel yesterday said the UN body respects homegrown solutions to problems facing nations."UNDP’s support to Gacaca process and Rwanda peace academy is that spirit [support home grown solutions],” he told his audience that included the Senate vice president Bernard Makuza. "We also remember genocide victims because those who forget history are doomed to repeat it,” he added. Quoting from the 1945 Charter (that came to be known as the UN Charter) he said the world body was devoted to peace and that "…..the people of UN are determined to save succeeding generations from severe …..human rights violations …”  The dinner was a culmination of weeklong activities that included debates on peace and democracy that were spearheaded by the parliament.
