The national men’s senior football team, Amavubi, will start a residential camp on Thursday, June 8 ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals against Mozambique which is set on June 18, at Huye Stadium.

Amavubi will hold daily training sessions at Kigali Pelé Stadium from June 8 up to June 14, two days before traveling to Huye.

Head coach Carlos Alos Ferrer last week announced a 28-man provisional squad where selected players will join the camp which will emphasize on building endurance and technical aspects of players before the match.

Ferrer is looking to overcome Mozambique and bag three points which he hopes can restore the country’s hopes of qualifying to the AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire in January 202.

"Mozambique is a great team, we will have to be very serious and mentally strong to stop them. This is a good test, we need to take the game seriously and work very hard in residential camp," Amavubi head coach Carlos Alos Ferrer said

"We are going to play with our supporters for the first time so we believe that it can boost our morale so we are going to prepare with all of our powers to get three points” he added

Rwanda are bottom of Group L with 2 points, two behind Mozambique and Benin who now sit second and third respectively in the table led by African champions Senegal who have already booked their slot in the 2023 AFCON finals.

To qualify for the 2023 AFCON, Rwanda needs to win all its two remaining games against Mozambique and Senegal, hoping that Benin drops at least two points from their remaining fixtures.
