For those of you new to the fashion catwalk scene: designers rarely disappoint. At the 2012 shows for the fall, every designer displayed a red piece: a solid, bright red, beautifully tantalizing, feminine piece. Runways were splashed with red: Marc Jacobs was high on red as was other fashion geniuses Michal Kors, John Galliano and Givenchy – the fashion house connected to Audrey Hepburn. Other fashion giants like Calvin Klein, Dian von Furstenburg, Christian Dior, Lanvin and of course Valentino, stole the show with their endless displays of red attire. Stars are already taken in by this color. So far this year, two leading ladies have gone romantic red: Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan in the popular Twilight movies, went with a red, sweeping and backless lace number at the Cannes Film Festival while Michelle Williams wore a red-tiered Louis Vuitton gown at the Academy Awards.  The Amazing Spiderman’s, Emma Stone went with a gothic look with a two-toned red gown at the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. Reese Witherspoon had a safe but sultry old Hollywood look when she wore a red, silk, sweetheart neckline, Shantung Zac Posen dress at the Golden Globes. So, how do we bring this illustrious color into our own wardrobes? Will any red do? First, the piece whether a dress, shirt, pair of shoes, or clutch – needs to be all red. The boldness of the piece makes it stand out. Second, it’s about sophisticated reds like deep or rosy red. Go for high necklines or anything vintage to add some glamour. Nothing hugging your body way too tight says ‘glamour’. There are three basic ways to wear red: classic, gothic or romantic. Classic is more for the day. Gothic requires multiple layers of a single fabric, strong black accents, boots with laces, and chunky belts. The romantic look incorporates soft red lace, some peplum dresses, sweetheart necklines and bows. At all costs, stay away from red patent shoes, unless of course you’re dressing up for Halloween. If you want to go for red shoes, try suede. Also, please stay away from red leather pants. It would be quite disheartening to be mistaken for a bar bench at an old club in London.
