With the re-opening of Downtown Cafe & Restaurant on Friday, the bar resumed its karaoke nights.On August 3 this year, fire gutted the joint, La Classe and Pharmavie pharmacy, both operating in the same premises.‘The place is now open and has been approved by all relevant authorities. The Police and City Council’s main concern when they shut us down was the safety of our clients. That’s why they insisted the landlord was sure all was well with the house before we re-opened,’ explained Amit Sharma, the manager of Downtown Bar & Restaurant.Amit also confirmed that a short circuit, as the Police and many people said before, was the cause of the fire that Friday evening, one and a half months ago.Police has called on owners of such businesses to install fire fighting equipment as well as fire detecting devices to avoid such hazards.Downtown, located opposite the Commercial Bank of Rwanda’s main branch in the city centre, next to Kigali City Council, has made a name for itself as one of the most popular Kigali hangouts. Their karaoke nights on Tuesday are one of the biggest theme nights in town, and besides being hosted by the extra-ordinary Carol Nderitu, they come with Carlsberg promotions that revelers are sure to enjoy all night.
