70-year old farmer wins community award

HUYE – Local authorities in Rusatira sector, Huye district, have honoured several individuals and local leaders who demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the improvement of the social welfare of area residents.Those awarded were in different categories including, best performing village leader, model farmer, the best sector employee, the best performing community health volunteer and those who dedicated their efforts to adult education.The awards included cash prizes and farming equipment as well as a certificate of merit.Faustin Misago, 70, who received the best farmer award, observed that the recognition was a motivation to even work harder.He said: "This award is recognition of my efforts. It gives me the courage to work harder”."I will encourage other farmers to invest in modern farming and I am ready to share with them my experience,” he added.According to the sector Executive Secretary, Arsene Kabalisa, the rewards are meant to stimulate the spirit of excellence and distinction among residents and leaders."It is a way of motivating those who are performing well and encourage the culture of excellence among the various individuals involved in the development of this area”, Kabalisa said. It is the third time the ceremony to reward best performing individuals is organised in the sector, Kabalisa added.Huye district vice mayor in charge of economic affairs, Cyprien Mutwarasibo, told residents that the secret for development lies in hard and dedication.He challenged them to put in a lot more effort to accelerate further progress towards development in the sector.
