Kigali Youth Forum last Sunday donated egg layers to young Genocide survivors grouped into several associations in Rusororo Sector, Gasabo District, to boost their poultry farming activities. According the president of the forum, Innocent Bayingana, the donation was aimed at supporting three associations depending on their activities. "Kigali City Youth Forum has contributed a total of Rwf 3,000,000 to support young Genocide survivors grouped in associations. During this month dedicated to the youth, we are supporting three associations depending on what they do,” said Bayingana. One of the beneficiaries was Urwibutso Association based at Kabuga II Cell that received 100  chickens worth Rfw600,000. "We gave Urwibutso association 100 modern layers. We gave them the chicken as the association already is engaged in poultry farming.  It is always better and more effective to support associations than helping individuals,” he said, urging beneficiaries to utilise the donation well to uproot poverty among them. The president of the Urwibutso association, Jean Claude Runihangabo, said the support would be an asset to boost the association’s production capacity as it formerly had only 70 chickens."This is a big contribution we have received. It will enable us to increase our production,” he said, as he thanked the youth forum for the kind gesture. A member of the association, Jeanne Mujawamaliya, said the association was beneficial to her and her family."Before I joined this association, I preferred to be alone, but since I did so, I feel free as everyone treats one another like a family member. We hope we will benefit a lot from it,’’ she commented. The association was founded by Masaka II genocide orphans in 2002 and has over 45 members. Apart from poultry farming, it also deals in honey production and so far owns 27 beehives and land worth around Rwf 3million.
