Hardly two weeks after she was crowned, Miss Rwanda, Aurore Kayibanda Umutesi is set to represent Rwanda at the highly anticipated Miss World pageant. This will be Rwanda’s debut at the event and therefore a very big deal as we wait in absolute keenness to see how far our reigning beauty will go. According to the Miss World website, the beauty queen is listed as the 13th contestant to confirm and register for the next Miss World pageant slated for September 2013.In a telephone interview with The New Times, Umutesi said, "While getting ourselves ready for Miss Rwanda, the organisers told us that whoever won would represent the country at the Miss World 2013.”"Since this is a contest our country has never participated in, we need to start preparations early. Currently, the Ministry of Culture and Sports is setting up a committee that will be responsible for all my needs and I’m sure you’ll be informed about it by the Ministry soon enough,” said the beauty queen.Umutesi, 20, a first year Civil Engineering student at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, also revealed that she’ll be leaving for the Miss World boot camp in July, 2013.Other than Nigeria’s Agbani Daregi, who won the Pageant in 2001, no African has ever been crowned Miss World. Miss World 2013 will be held on September 14, 2013 in Jakarta and Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia. The current Miss World, Yu Wenxia of China, will crown her successor at the end of this event.
