As a way of curbing poor service delivery in local governments, the ministry has set up a hotline through which any bad service received be reported.The hotline which has been set up the ministry of local government is 5387.The hotline, established following constant complaints from the public concerning graft and cases of bribery within government institutions, will be operational in all 30 districts to help in cracking down on the practice.According to Ladislas Ngendahimana, the communication specialist at the ministry, all districts are expected to have the hotline operational by the end of this month."The number is toll free and already operational; it is not yet accessible in some districts because they are still undergoing the process of setting it up through negotiations with and telecom companies. However, by the end of September the hotline will be working in all corners of the country,” Ngendahimana told The New Times.The disservice by errant officials was last month castigated by the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, who in a letter written last month, stressed that some government officials illegally ask for extra ‘irrelevant’ fees when seeking certain services to citizens."For the past couple of days, we have been hearing and receiving complaints about poor service delivery in local administration, where people are sometimes required to pay money which has nothing to do with a service they are applying for,” said Musoni, saying that this should immediately stop.
