A group of 32 South African students were given lessons on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in a set of tutorials organised by the Rwanda High Commission in South Africa to increase awareness of the turmoil that engulfed Rwanda 18 years ago.Following the Genocide commemoration held at Freedom Park in April, due to the interest of the public, the educational programme on the Genocide were started on 29th August 2012 in collaboration with the Johannesburg Holocaust Centre."The major attention for the day was Grade 9 students. They were sourced from various schools through facilitation by the Gauteng Provincial Department of Education (District level),” a statement from the High Commission reads in part."A four-hour program was planned. The educational methodology was interactive; it utilised audio-visuals, promoted interactive educational approaches, and edutainment through storytelling.”The programme introduced the students to live testimonies from a genocide survivor.
