Gatsibo co-op raises Rwf11m for Agaciro Fund

During celebrations to mark this year’s Umuganura, farmers’ cooperative, Coproriz Ntende fundraised Rwf11m for the recently established Agaciro Development Fund.

During celebrations to mark this year’s Umuganura, farmers’ cooperative, Coproriz Ntende fundraised Rwf11m for the recently established Agaciro Development Fund. Speaking at the function, cooperative president Jean Damascente Rwamwaga , pledged that his group will continue to work hard to boost development in their area."The cooperative has been outstanding contribution in the development of communities, but more especially for transforming people’s lives and that of their family members”, said the.Jean Baptiste Ruhumuriza, a father of five, encouraged his fellow members to work hard inorder to achieve their goals.  "I was very poor living in a grass thatched house, but now I have been able to construct my own house, I have acquired two heifers thanks to this year’s harvest and the savings worth Rwf2 million that I made.” The Mayor of Gatsibo District, Ambrose Ruboneza hailed the farmers for being exemplary in the district and challenged them to assist other cooperatives to improve their communities.  "The reason why we are here today is to celebrate Umuganura…you have shown resilience and worked hard towards the development of the area and yourselves, if you continue with this level of determination you are set to achieve more” The rice farmers’ cooperative that was established in 2003 emerged as the best cooperative of the year in the Eastern Province. Coproriz Ntende started with 560 members with a share of Rwf3, 730 but today the cooperative has 3,360 members with a share of Rwf. 25,186. The cooperative has been able to build its own offices. All are operations are computer based with improved management of funds for its members using ICT applications such sage software that used in their daily operations.
