A reliable source had put the number of those killed at 18. But according to Police spokesperson, Theos Badege, only 14 women were murdered including one who died of natural causes.He noted that two suspects would be charged with murder.Badege added that the police is following possible leads that may lead to the arrest of more suspects. "We are still carrying out investigations regarding these murders. We have, however, been informed that some of the murder cases were as a result of conflicts over money while other ‘clientelle’ have complained of having been infected with sexually transmitted diseases,” he said.Badege urged the public to remain calm and be supportive to the security organs as investigations continue.The latest incident of the murders was reported late last August after three young women were murdered in Gatsata suburb of Kigali.Two of the young women were known sex workers. A third woman is suspected to have been killed after she witnessed the fate of the duo. Angelique Mukarwaka, a local official attached to Gatsata Sector, identified the deceased as Donatha Yankurije, 22, Veredianah Mukashingiro alias Miyatatu 31, and Alphonsine Ahishakiye, a housewife and a mother of two.
