Miss Rwanda competition is not easy

Editor, I write in response to Diana Mpyisi’s article, ‘Escaping the Average’ (The New Times, September 5), which had great insights on Miss Rwanda 2012. However I would like to comment on some of the views in the article.

The girls had only two weeks of training not a month, and the change these girls went through these two weeks was amazing considering their different backgrounds.  I commend them for their resilience and hard work. As you know a teacher teaches and it is up to the students to do their part; the girls were guided in every possible way but at the end of the day it is always about who delivers on that day and that is why it is a competition. And, again, I will stress that nurturing 15 girls from very different background, in two weeks is no easy feat, you should try it. So Diana, much as your opinion is respected, it would be great if you approached the people who lived with the contestants for every single day of those two weeks and seek their views.Gloria, Kigali
