Up to 17 people were killed by wild animals in the first six months of this year, Radio Mozambique reported Wednesday.Citing the authorities in the central province of Manica, the radio reported that the victims were killed by hippos and crocodiles at Nhacao on the Zambezi Valley in Tambara district. The authorities in Tambara are urging people not to fetch water on the rivers to avoid deadly attacks. The district administrator, Guilherme Canhece, said his district government has trained guards to chase the mammals, which also destroy crops in the region and, in one case, 11 hectares of farms were ruined. Last year, more than 100 were killed by wild animals in the Portuguese-speaking nation.Wild animals have become a headache for the governments of the central provinces of Tete and Zambezia, as well as the northernmost regions of Niassa and Cabo Delgado.
