Dear Its A Guy Thing,The other day I was having a conversation with a group of my guy friends, bantering about the usual stuff, relationships and politics. When we hit relationships, I asked them that kind women they wanted and a couple of them mentioned they wanted a "submissive” woman. I of course got offended on behalf of the women they dated but they broke it down for me about it just being a natural feeling for a man to want to be the man of the relationship.I was wondering if this is a conversation you have also come across in your conversations with other men or are my friends the minority?MarieDear Marie,The issue of ‘submissive’ women is one that will always attract a lot of ill-feelings and misunderstanding. While I will not attempt to defend men who actually want their women under their thumbs and totally under their control, I would like to talk about what us, normal men, mean when we talk of submission. In my experience, there is nothing quite as unattractive as a woman who is simply so caught up in being right all the time that she refuses to let you have the final word, just once. We guys are hardwired to lead, in the home and in the relationship. If we feel powerless in our relationships, it can only damage it. A submissive woman knows that, and uses that to her advantage. Know the saying ‘behind every strong man, there is an even stronger woman’? Well, knowing when you to push and when to concede are hallmarks of these women.
