Rayon Sports is set to receive an extra sponsorship package Rwf40m from Nyanza District as the team targets to win league for the first time since 2004.After years of basing in Kigali as their home, for Rwanda’s most supported football club, time came and the club decided,  ‘east of west, home is best’ by returning to their original home in Nyanza at the end of last season. In an interview with Mayor of Nyanza District Abdallah Murenzi expressed his joy at Rayon Sport’s decision to relocate to Nyanza, a verdict which was agreed upon by both the club and the district authorities.According to reliable sources, the Blues have a budget of Rwf80m to work with next season but Murenzi confirmed that Nyanza District will contribute to between Rwf40-50m."The district plans to increase its budget to accommodate (financial) support towards the team as it (team) competes to win the league. This year we need to be focused and win the league title, there is no reason not to be ambitious” Murenzi told Times Sport.Asked if they plan to sign new players, he replied: "Of course we want to strengthen the squad with new players but all that will depend on their value,” he said, adding, "We are in talks with some of the players we need.”Murenzi noted that they need to see the team back on top of Rwandan football and winning titles, "We need Rayon to fly again that’s why we decided the team to come back to Nyanza and we hope it will not struggle again.”In the past years Rayon Sport has been struggling to challenge against the big rivals APR, Atraco and now Police mainly because of the financial problems but Murenzi believed that will soon be history.Rayon has won the league Rwandan League 6 times, 1975, 1981, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2004, the Rwanda Cup (Peace Cup) 8 times, 1976, 1979, 1982, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1998, and 2005 as the Cecafa Kagame Cup one in 1998.
