International friendlyYesterdayNigeria 4-0 RwandaTomorrowNigeria vs RwandaRWANDA’s U-17 national side, the junior wasps, suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to their Nigerian counterparts in their first international friendly match played yesterday at the U.J Esuene Sports Stadium in Calabar.Four second half goals from the Golden Eaglets were enough to ensure a miserable afternoon for the visitors. Both teams are preparing for the 2013 African Under-17 African Youth Championship qualifiers set for next month. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Sunday in the second and last warm-up match. While the Golden Eaglets open their account with a First Round qualifier against Niger next week, the Junior Wasps got a bye to the second round where they will face either Malawi or Botswana.Rwanda’s progress to the second round followed their impressive performance at the last tournament where they nearly won the trophy in front of their home fans but for the 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the final. To coach Richard Tardy, the two matches against Nigeria are crucial because they will offer him a clear-cut chance of looking and picking players for the next qualifier.Last year, Rwanda reached the final of the U-17 African Championship, hence qualifying for the Fifa U-17 World Cup held in Mexico.
