Amavubi Stars’ assistant captain Haruna Niyonzima reckons the team will only be successful with more players turning professional. In an interview with Times Sports, while on tour with his Tanzanian club Yanga Africans last week, the skilled midfielder said Rwanda needs more players to play outside of the country in order to get more experience."We have good players in Rwanda but we need to send them outside of the country so that they can get experience which will help our national team,” admitted the former Etincelles, Rayon Sport and APR player-maker.The vice skipper noted that if Rwanda’s football governing and the individual clubs do not find professional opportunities for as many as possible it will be difficult to have a strong national team capable of competing favourably against the continent’s best sides, most of them full of professional players.Niyonzima, Amavubi’s most experienced player after captain Olivier Karekezi, stressed that Rwanda has the potential to be at par with Africa’s top sides, but the problem is that Rwanda doesn’t have many professional players. He noted, "I’m saying this from experience, if a player goes to play in another league it motivates them to work harder in order to get a place in their new team, which at the end of the day helps the national team. Professional football and amature football are very different. ”
