Mozambican President visits Kigali Genocide memorial

THE Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, at Gisozi, has lessons for humanity, the new Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson and President of Mozambique, Armando Emilio Guebuza, said yesterday.Guebuza made the remarks yesterday after being guided to a tour of the memorial and paying his respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide agaisnt the Tutsi."What we see here is something we have heard about but, hearing does not communicate, and we can imagine those who saw it, who were in it, who suffered, as well as their relatives who are still alive,” he said."What we saw here is a lesson for humanity. Let us build a planet with people that are friendly, live with each other, and share happiness with each other.”Guebuza’s visit to Rwanda follows the 32nd SADC Summit of the Heads of State and Government held in Maputo, Mozambique, on August 17-18 which mandated the newly elected SADC Chairperson to undertake a mission to discuss the crisis in eastern DRC.Commenting on the SADC move, last week, Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, said Rwanda welcomes ideas and support from SADC, that can bring peace in eastern DRC.
