In this life, people will always wish to do right but unfortunately, most never do. There is a saying that, "facts are bitter,” and I believe the inventor of these words was a wise person. This reminds of a friend of mine who once asked me why I always strive to do the right things but never succeed. This interaction made me feel so uncomfortable as if I did not belong to this society. People do not want to face facts because they are always bitter. The truth sometimes is hard to accept because it makes people feel ashamed or embarrassed and humiliated because of their imperfections. However, one thing I have learned, as a teenager is the truth about certain facts ; though bitter, they always help to mould us into more understanding and responsible young citizens of Rwanda. When we learn from our mistakes, we eventually make better choices in our lives. As much as teenagers live life like there is no tomorrow, we must understand that consequence will result from every action we make. The lazy and incompetent people in society will always dislike ambitious people. Those who strive to do the right thing will always be shunned in an environment filled with wrongdoers. On a general note, I could take an example of schools where annual prefects’ elections take place. Students will always vie for their favourite candidates and happily entrust them with the responsibility to lead them. When the prefects eventually assume their duties by abiding by all the school rules and regulations, students start disliking them—in extreme cases labeling them as traitors. They prefer the company of wrongdoers and identify with them as role models at the end of the day—just because they are following the crowd. However, such character never leads to success as wrongdoing always reaps negative consequences while doing the right thing leads to success. At the end of the day, I could best advise teenagers to, "Never argue with fools, for they may not notice the difference.” Live life the best way you can and let people judge you correctly.
