The buzz started going around town four months back that American rapper Sisqo would grace Kampala’s dusty streets at a concert at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.Sisqo, real name Mark Althavean Andrews, jets in yesterday on a British Airways flight to spite cynics that doubted his arrival. Since Uganda audiences are hard to predict, we don’t know if the ‘Unleash the Dragon’ star will be well received as big names like Demarco and Wayne Wonder had a handful of people. However, Misairi Kabira of Skata Records, a UK-based entertainment firm organizing Sisqo’s live concert, thinks otherwise."After R. Kelly being a success and going by the fact that Ugandans love old school music, we thought Sisqo would be the perfect guy to have down here,” Kabira says.Perhaps he is right because Sisqo released hit albums in 1999 and 2000. He is adamant that the show can’t be a flop because "we did our homework quite well”. He explains that the artistes chosen to curtain raise are crowd pullers, who include: Chameleone, Bobi Wine, Jackie Chandiru and Fuze of Azonto fame.To ensure that the show lives up to the hype, Skata Records have teamed up with our leading events company, Silk Events."We have already set up the Olympic size stage that we flew in last year at the venue and also prepared a special production never done for Sisqo,” says Moses Opolot, the Silk Events publicist.
