Serena assists Genocide orphans

The management of Serena Hotel, Kigali Tuesday gave assistance worth Frw 876,000 to genocide orphans of Kimironko sector, Gasabo district.

The management of Serena Hotel, Kigali Tuesday gave assistance worth Frw 876,000 to genocide orphans of Kimironko sector, Gasabo district.

The orphans organized under the association Abahumurizanya, are from 120 families in Kimironko. The assistance included foodstuffs and clothes

Speaking at the function, the Serena Hotel country manager, Mugo Maringa, said that Serena Hotel is committed to continuously provide assistance to Genocide survivors.

Maringa also thanked the survivors for being well organized, something that has enabled Serena Hotel to work with them to improve their conditions.

"It is good to see that you have commitment to advance yourselves for the better" said Maringa.

The head of IBUKA in Kimironko, Eric Mushimire, expressed gratitude to Serena for continuously supporting the orphans of the Genocide in Kimironko. He recalled that it was the second time the Hotel was providing assistance to the orphans in Kimironko.

He also called upon the orphans to overcome their grief and formulate practical plans for their future.

He added that genocide survivors need assistance from everyone and that the problems of orphans who lost their parents to the genocide need collective efforts from everyone to resolve them.

The representative of the orphans association, Olivier Mugabowintwari, said that they face a number of problems. These include lack of employment after school and failure by many to join institutions of higher learning after completing secondary school education.
