Editor, I wish to respond to a story that appeared in The Sunday Times of August 19, titled “NGOs under scrutiny over accountability”. It’s well known that some NGOs get funds from donors to help the poor but divert the money for their own enrichment. However, it is important to note that the majority of these NGOs do help Rwandans.
Editor,I wish to respond to a story that appeared in The Sunday Times of August 19, titled "NGOs under scrutiny over accountability”. It’s well known that some NGOs get funds from donors to help the poor but divert the money for their own enrichment. However, it is important to note that the majority of these NGOs do help Rwandans. While the evaluation of activities by NGOs is a welcome move – since it enforces accountability – it must be conducted in transparency. Also the assertion that NGOs plan their activities without involving district leaders seems contrary to the Government of Rwanda’s view of NGOs as development partners.I think NGOs should be seen as contributing to national development. NGOs are not against things getting back to order. NGOs are organisations like any other organisations and liable to human error; their projects might suffer some failures here and there. We’ve seen some Government projects that failed rather badly.For NGOs to be judged as telling ‘lies’ is quit indictment Zamu Isma
