Rayon Sports relocate back to Nyanza

SIX-TIME national league champions Rayon Sports has partnered with Nyanza District to have its management under the authorities of Southern Province officials.The development comes after the blues camp had witnessed financial constraints, which played against their title ambitions in the recent past.Nyanza District Mayor, Abdallah Murenzi, said yesterday, "We are in discussions of having a strong partnership such that Rayon Sport can have its base in Nyanza”. "Under this partnership, we want to revive the image of Rayon Sports, build a strong team with young talented players and many other developments,” added Murenzi.Rayon Sport’s Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya said yesterday, "We have agreed to go into partnership with Nyanza District. Among issues to be addressed is the payment of players’ salaries”."Nyanza will disband their team and put focus on the welfare of Rayon Sports. We will work together to revive the image of the club and ensure that we prepare the next season in good conditions,” said Gakwaya, adding that focus will be put on young players.The club started preparations under the tutelage of Nyanza coach Abdul Mbarushimana. The club is preparing a pre-season fixture against SC Kiyovu. Both clubs will clash in an Anti-Malaria campaign match which will be held in Rwamagana on August 16.Rayon Sports was founded in May 1968 in Nyanza and though they are based in Kigali, it enjoys a big fan base in Southern Province.Last season, Rayon finished sixth in the 12 team national league.
