Make sports a part of your child’s agenda

Whether for competition or just fun, swimming is a great sport. Net photo .

I recently discovered that my seven year old daughter is quite a runner. On her last sports day, she literally flew all the way to the finish line – I wasn’t sure if it was because she was naturally fast or if she saw me wave a chocolate from my seat!I decided I would keep an eye out and see just how good an athlete she is. She enjoys swimming and I can see some serious improvement. I also see an Olympic Gold Medal if she continues with that enthusiasm to be the best. Any sport that your child enjoys is worth pursuing - especially at a young age. Although sport is viewed today as a competitive activity, it can also be practiced for leisure and fitness purposes – whichever you are more comfortable with. Sports are not only fun and competitive, but they also teach you the importance of taking care of your body and well being in terms of physical self-discipline. There are several sports activities that you can choose from such that it is easier to commit to this activity, depending on what the child enjoys doing most.Taking a child swimming is a great way to spend time with your little one. There is no harm in paying for additional lessons either. If a child doesn’t like the water the first time – do not worry– they’ll eventually get used to it, depending on how often you take them swimming.I might not be a fan of it but soccer really is a great game for kids. Kicking a ball down the field, even with assigned positions and attempted technique is far easier than learning to dribble a basketball or handle a baseball. Soccer is easily one of the most active sports and will encourage greater endurance and ability through running. There is nothing I enjoy more than dancing. There is just something so refreshing about it. Children have a natural ear for rhythm which makes them better dancers and therefore easy to teach. If it’s not something you despise or frown upon, enroll your child for dance lessons. Let them learn everything there is to learn about dance from Contemporary Dance to Salsa to Ballet!Learning the brass tacks of dance as a toddler will be valuable for those serious about pursuing a career in dance as most professional dancers become so at a very young age. Whatever the reason, sports is one of the most positive and health building pass times not to mention totally rewarding.
