Youth from several countries currently meeting in Gashora in Bugesera district, Eastern Province have been called on to take up leadership positions.Representatives from Congo, Tanzania, Canada and Rwanda will focus on roles and responsibilities that come with leadership.Addressing the seminar, the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council (NYC), Alphonse Nkuranga, called on the youth to start paving way for their expected role in society."There should be no time to waste; as youth it is now that you take on steps that will contribute to your success and efforts in contributing to the good governance or leadership of this country,” Nkuranga said.He noted although there is a lot that has been done, especially through student`s associations and clubs, more efforts were still needed for the youth to share their experiences."Leaders-to-be do not have to wait until that time comes before getting leadership skills as it might be challenging for such a leader to play his or her roles effectively,” he said.Organised by World Vision-Rwanda, the training has attracted over 60 students from secondary schools.Souleymane Henikoye, the Human Resource Director at World Vision, said that the aim of the conference is to give the youth or students a chance learn through interaction and sharing views on a wide range of issues that may be affecting them as well as promoting or encouraging them to work even harder."The programme is designed to build capacity of the young generation so that they can play a role in changing or transforming the society to be better world to live in,” Henikoye said.Participants who have attended similar conferences testified the importance while others were eager and expected to benefit from it."It is my second time to attend such a conference, and based on the studies and programmes that we were exposed to, our school has facilitated us to come up with leadership groups,” said Alphosine Uwera, an S2 student at Nyakayaga Secondary School in Gastibo District, Eastern Province.
