Three of the selected beauties who will represent Kigali City in this year’s Miss Rwanda beauty pageant include Crysta Joe Giraso, who was crowned Miss Kigali Institute of Technology (KIST) last year.The third year Architecture and Environmental Design student beat 14 other contestants, who took part in a highly competitive Miss Kigali pre-selection. The event took place on Sunday at Kigali Serena Hotel. 30 ladies had shown interest in participation, but the final screening saw 16 dropped."My experience has indeed helped me win this contest and I believe that this marks the beginning of my journey to being Miss Rwanda,” said the joyful Giraso.Johali Nsengiyumva, 19, who is in her Senior Six holidays, emerged first runner-up, while Vanesa Igabe, 18, also in Senior Six holidays was second runner-up.Lots of entertainment kept the mood of a fully packed conference hall up even though there were some delays for the event which was supposed to kick off at 6p.m.These included Kigali Live band and Melody Bruce, a local upcoming artiste. At 8p.m, the event officially kicked off with Anita Pendo, an artiste as well as radio presenter, calling contestants onto the runway one after the other.As usual, they were taken through the catwalk, and question and answer session. Before the first session that saw judges identifying the top five, Uncle Austin gave the audience an exciting performance.There was then a second question and answer session where two more dropped, leaving the three winners. Like others who will represent Provinces, they too walked away with $100 each and an assortment of cosmetics donated by Simba Super Market. At the end of the event, Pendo announced the end of the pre-selection exercise. This means that 15 contestants are now headed to the boot camp slated for August 19.In the camp, the contestants will undergo various exercises that will also build on their capacities and skills to perform in the final contest where the Miss Rwanda 2012 will be crowned.
