AMAVUBI Stars forward Meddie Kagere has signed a two-year contract with Tunisian Premier League club Esperance Sportive de Zarzis, Times Sport has learnt. The move was confirmed on Sunday by national team head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic, who is trying to turn around Rwanda’s football fortunes by helping as many players as possible go professional.According to Micho, Kagere signed a two-year deal on Saturday after passing the medicals in a move valued at over $150,000.The Uganda-born striker passed trials with Esperance de Zarzis after trotting around the continent, doing test with South Africa’s Bidvest Wits FC and Pretoria Fc before heading to Tunisia. The 26-year-old Amavubi international has spent two seasons at Police, scoring 28 goals in two Primus League seasons. He has since become a regular for Amavubi and a talisman for Police, spearheading their good run in the last two seasons and often delivering. His goals were particularly instrumental in bringing Police within touching distance of their first league title this season as well as MTN Peace Cup.The former Atraco forward was previously linked to Tanzania giants Yanga, Gor Mahia of Kenya, APR and St. George of Ethiopia. He came into the lime-light when he guided Rwanda to the finals of the Cecafa Challenge Cup and went on to finish as joint-top scorer (five goals) at the tournament. After sealing Kagere’s move, Micho plans to widen his scouting network for Amavubi key players such as Olivier Karekezi, Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza and Jean Claude Iranzi.Skipper Karekezi is reported to be undergoing trials with South African side Amazulu which is managed by former Amavubi coach Roger Palmegren.
