UNLIKE the male league, the national women football league does not have a sponsor which is why the national football federation, Ferwafa, is appealing to corporate companies to come to their rescue.Because of lack of sources for steady funds, the women national league champions, AS Kigali, who have won it four consecutive seasons, will take only Rwf1,000,000 in cash prize on top of the trophy, while first runners up, Remera Rukoma will take Rwf500,000.According to the head of women football in the country, Félicité Rwemalika, the league does not have a future without steady financial support. "We know this (Frw1 million) is almost nothing for a club which spent so much throughout the whole season, but it’s what we can afford as a federation. We have always been encouraging corporate companies to invest in women football but no one approaches us,” said Rwemalika. She added, "Even the little we give is from FIFA’s budget to Ferwafa. We’re still encouraging local companies to play a role in developing women football”. AS Kigali won the title with 55 points, followed by Remera Rukoma with 48 pts, while APR finished third with ten points behind the champions, The Winners (39pts), Inyemera (33pts), Les Lionnes (31pts), Bugesera (26pts), ESIR (25pts), Rambura (12pts), Imirasire (6pts) and Urumuri (1 point).
