Transparency International Rwanda (TI-RW) and the African Parliamentarian Network Against Corruption/ Rwanda- Chapter (APNAC-Rwanda) have agreed to join efforts in the fight against corruption in the country.This was disclosed by the chairperson of TI-RW Marie Immaculee Ingabire at Gashora in Bugesera District, at the opening of a two-day meeting of APNAC members and TI RW.The meeting was convened to devise a common approach on the fight against graft.APNAC is affiliated to the Parliamentarians’ Network that operates in 21 African countries.In Rwanda, it comprises several senators and members of the Chambers of Deputies.The signing of an MoU is due today.Ingabire explained a similar memorandum of understanding was signed with the national police and the Ombudsman’s office. "We don’t have a mandate to summon a minister or any other leaders cited in corruption related scandals, that’s why we need to work closely with parliament that has those powers”."Signing a Memorandum of Understanding will enhance commitments between the two institutions to fight corruption,” Ingabire said in an interview.Citing the judiciary and procurement departments, she said corruption is yet to be uprooted in some government institutions.Senator Marie Claire Mukasine, the head of APNAC-Rwanda, said as members of parliament they would continue playing their role in the fight against corruption.The latest survey by Transparency International ranked Rwanda as the least corrupt nation in the region.
