RWANDA is still-locked on 125th position in this month’s Fifa/Coca Cola World rankings released yesterday in Switzerland.The country which was last engaged in a competitive international match in June was ranked 37th in Africa and 125th in the world.The slump in July was due to Amavubi’s poor performance the previous month following back to back losses in the 2014 Brazil World Cup and 2013 Africa nation’s Cup qualifier.In the Cecafa region, Uganda ranks better despite dropping three places to 88, followed by Sudan and Rwanda. Both Kenya and Tanzania dropped one place to 126 and 128 respectively.While the eyes of the sporting world are fixed on the Olympic Football Tournaments in London, the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking shows a newcomer to the fold.South Sudan, who became FIFA’s 209th member at the 2012 Congress in Budapest, played their first official international in the capital Juba on July 10.Their much-heralded 2-2 draw with Uganda was worth 20 ranking points and sees the Southern Sudanese make their debut in 199th place.There was no change in Africa’s top five; Ivory Coast are the top team, followed by Ghana, Algeria, Libya and Mali. African champions Zambia have slipped from sixth to ninth, while Nigeria have fallen outside the Top 10 on the continent.Spain remains the top team in the world, followed by Germany, while England have reached a historic third place, their best-ever ranking.Uruguay sit in fourth, while Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Netherlands, Croatia and Denmark round up the Top 10.
