The Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) will soon set up a cardiology centre, it announced yesterday.Moses Kazoora, the Director of Public Relations at RSSB, told The New Times that the board’s idea to set up the centre and other medical services was approved by the government."We [RSSB] signed a partnership with an Indian hospital, Medanta, which will help establish a cardiology centre and other medical services,” said Kazoora in a telephone interview.Cardiology is a medical specialty that deals with heart disorders. The field includes diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.A congenital heart defect (CHD) is a flaw in the structure of the heart and great vessels which is present at birth, and are the most common type of major birth defects, while valvular heart disease is any ailment involving one or more of the valves of the heart.The cardiology centre will he hosted at the Twin Towers, adjacent to the current head offices of RSSB.The Rwf 6.9 billion facility to be named ‘Doctors’ Plaza’ is still under construction and is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.The facility was previously part of four buildings that were supposed to be purchased by the government in a bid to solve the problem of lack of office space for its institutions."The Doctors’ Plaza will host medical services to treat patients locally instead of taking them abroad; and this is in the government’s interest, and it [government] gave us a go-ahead,” said Kazoora.
