According to teachers, it is important for students to stop considering the holidays as a period of, "doing whatever they want”.Students have been warned against using their vacation in a less productive way. They are advised to concentrate on broadening their knowledge and helping their parents in handling various activities, whether at home or elsewhere.Thomas Ngwabije, a teacher at Groupe Scolaire Bigugu, a secondary school based in Nyaruguru district, told The New Times that the holiday is the best time for students to improve their academic skills."A student who spends the holiday moving from one place to another will have a hard time remembering what was taught the previous term,” Ngwabije said. "Such conduct can not produce good results.”"Students should desist from wasting time and concentrate on revising what they learned in school or helping their parents around the house. "Of course, they need to relax too, but that should not be a priority,” added Ngwabije.Students should carefully plan the use of their time during the holidays and remain active and productive.Jean Claude Simbi, a senior six students at ACEPER Nyamagabe, told The New Times that he spends his time preparing for the national examinations - scheduled late this year."I consider these holidays an opportunity to revise and review my courses for better comprehension,” Simbi said.Josiane Ingabire, another student said, "During the holidays, I meet with other students and discuss issues. This broadens my knowledge because we share what we know”.Parents are advised to keep an eye on their children and encourage them to stay active and maintain discipline.
