A delegation of police officers from Uganda Police at the weekend concluded a four-day visit to Rwanda, where they expressed their desire to adopt welfare development schemes from Rwanda National Police. The delegation of five was led by the Under Secretary of Uganda Police Force, Rogers Muhirwa. While in the country, they met Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana. Citing Zigama Credit Savings Scheme that caters for the needs of the uniformed personnel in Rwanda, Muhirwa said they were here to see how Rwanda Police welfare scheme operates."We are going to work hard towards improving welfare of our Police officers in Uganda. We at least know what it takes and what has been lacking,” he said."We were very impressed that Zigama CSS works in a commercial way but continues to solve financial problems of its clients, including the Police officers,” said Muhirwa."The system we have seen is very much functional, and if we can be able to implement it in our own force, then it will be a milestone and it will improve the welfare of our officers”.Other projects they admired were the police health insurance and the housing schemes. The Director of Welfare at Rwanda National Police Supt Theophile Kamali, who guided the delegation to various welfare projects in the country, said both forces would continue to work closely.
