Fifteen members of the Muslim community were yesterday awarded for their competence in reading the Quran as well as reciting it.Organized by the Africa Moslems Agency (AMA) in collaboration with Voice of Africa-Kigali, the Ramadan Quran reading contest is an annual event, which encourages memorising and understanding the Quran.Emiran Nshimirimana, 16, who emerged the overall winner, walked away with Rwf 150,000 while the youngest winner, Sumaya Mukeshimana, 7, received Rwf 75,000."I am so excited that I can be amongst the winners and it is through my mother`s efforts that I can now read the Quran,” said Mukeshimana.  The competition attracted 50 contestants who also included  Abdulahaman Seziceye, 79, who walked away with Rwf 70,000.Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Kasim Rajabu, said that the competition was open to people aged five and above."We want to make sure this competition brings or opens up new chapters in many people’s lives based on the way they get to learn and understand the Islamic faith through reading the Quran,” said Rajabu.He explained that the Quran is easy and interesting to read, especially when people read it with the interest to learn more about Islam.
