Editor,I read with interest a story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times titled "House approves whistleblowers bill”.The legislation will indeed encourage people to overcome fear and report those involved in corruption.Once the bill has been enacted into law, whistleblowers will be able to reveal classified information on graft-related crimes, without fearing any retribution.People need to be confident enough to give information about the misconduct of officials or businesses with the assurance of protection by the law.The law will come as a boost to government’s efforts to control corruption and misuse of public funds and assets. I am certain that people will rise above fear of possible reprisals and play a more proactive role in fighting corruption.Stella TetaKigali
