The Rwanda Film Festival, has for the past eight years brought people together in celebration of local film talent. Screening commenced on July 14, under the theme “My voice, My Identity” and the final debut was the screening of an amazing film, The First Grader, at Kigali Serena Hotel on July 21, 2012.
The Rwanda Film Festival, has for the past eight years brought people together in celebration of local film talent. Screening commenced on July 14, under the theme "My voice, My Identity” and the final debut was the screening of an amazing film, The First Grader, at Kigali Serena Hotel on July 21, 2012. The two-week Film Festival started with the popular Hillywood screenings in the four provinces of Rwanda. This was later followed by a five-day run of movie premiers in Kigali that ended with a crown gala night that involved awarding certificates to graduates of the Civil Society and the Hillywood 2012 Silverback Awards for the 49 movies that were nominated.Several places in Kigali including Ishyo Arts Center, the Goethe Theatre in partnership with the Belgian embassy, Shuttle restaurant and Kwetu Films screened a number of films. However, the films, ‘Mr. Nobody’, ‘The First Grader’ and ‘The Education of Ouma Obama’, attracted the largest crowds.Below is a pictorial that captures the Rwanda Film Festival.
