Rwanda is waiting for international soccer body, Fifa’s decision on whether Amahoro stadium would host the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers which, start on May 30.

Rwanda’s local football body CEO Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday it’s only Fifa that will decide whether Amahoro stadium is fit to host the 2010 Fifa/Can qualifiers where Rwanda is supposed to host Mauritania in the opener on May 30.

"No one decides whether a stadium is fit to hold international games apart from Fifa. It’s only Fifa that will give us the way forward," Kalisa acknowledged.

Practically, Amahoro stadium will not be ready to host Rwanda’s opening qualifier against Mauritania because with less than two weeks remaining, there are some areas on the pitch where the grass has not yet grown.

Apart from Amahoro stadium, no other stadium in the country can host any international fixture.

Nyamirambo stadium is undergoing wholesale renovation but Fifa is yet to approve it to host international matches.

The Sport Ministry (MINISPOC) which is responsible for Amahoro stadium renovation is waiting for May 20 to confirm whether the country’s lone stadium will be fit and ready to host the qualifiers.

Fifa officials are expected in the country to anytime soon to inspect the work done on both Amahoro and Nyamirambo and give their verdict Rwanda’s tie against Mauritania.

South African Sports facility construction company, Ramatla Earth Works won the tender worth $500.000 to renovate the national stadium in late February and work started the following month.
