Swimmer Jackson Niyomugabo became the latest Rwandan athlete to exit the London Games after failing to reach the semi finals of the 50-metres freestyle competition yesterday at London’s Aquactics centre.The two-time Olympian set a personal best of 27:38 to finish fourth in the heat stage. He came behind Djibouti’s Osman Abdourahman, who clocked 27:25. Egypt’s Elkheder Mohammed finished second in a time of 27:26 and Wei Ching of American Samoe, who clocked 27:30.Niyomugabo improved his previous best by 36 seconds he clocked fours ago in Beijing. He finished ahead of Uganda’s Mugula Ganzi, who finished in fifth position with 27:58 and Cameroon’s Paul Ekane who came sixth in 27:87 and Ethiopia’s Teshale Girma who finished last in 28: 99 respectively.In the overall rankings, Niyomugabo finished 51 places behind Bovell George of Trinidad and Tobago who went through as the best qualifier for the semifinals after clocking 21:77 seconds.The top 16 swimmers from the heats progressed to the semi-finals were the top eight will advance to the final.
