Jason Derülo visits CHUK, shares lunch with the patients

American singer Jason Joel Desrouleaux, better known by his stage name Jason Derülo, visited Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK) on Sunday and, shared lunch with the patients there before catching his flight back to the U.S.

American singer Jason Joel Desrouleaux, better known by his stage name Jason Derülo, visited Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK) on Sunday and, shared lunch with the patients there before catching his flight back to the U.S.The singer-songwriter, actor and dancer arrived in the country on Friday night to grace the closure of the second edition of Primus Guma Guma Super Star (PGGSS 2) competition. The competition was won by R&B singer King James after beating his Hip-Hop rival Jay Polly in the tight-fought contest. The former walked away with Rwf24 million.During his one hour visit to the hospital, the R&B star, who had performed to thousands of fans at the parking lot of Amahoro Stadium the previous day, served and shared lunch with patients at the hospital’s various wards.Landry Jabo, of the East African Promoters (EAP) told The New Times, that Derülo was also initially expected to visit orphanages and children in hospitals, but could not do so because of time contraint.While addressing huge crowds at the concert, Derülo said he was very excited to be in Rwanda and Africa for the very first time. "This is an experience that I have to be proud of,” said Derülo. "When I go back, I will tell everyone about the good times I had while here and the good people in Rwanda.”Derülo was born in Miami, Florida to Haitian parents. He has been writing songs for artistes including Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Sean Kingston, Cassie and Lil Wayne since he was 16, intent on becoming a solo performer.After attending performing arts schools and honing his talents as a singer and dancer, Derülo won the grand prize on the 2006 season finale of the TV show Showtime at the Apollo. Derülo was discovered by music producer J. R. Rotem, who signed him to his record label Beluga Heights Records and Warner Bros- Records.
