In a bid to realise Rwanda’s quest to become a middle income nation, members of the ruling party, Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), from Kimihurura Sector,  Kigali City, recently initiated a programme of South-South Cooperation with sectors from the countryside. Speaking to The New Times yesterday, the chairperson of RPF in Kimihurura, Sheikh Saleh Habimana, said the initiative that started on July 15 is aimed at improving the welfare of the people. "Most of these people in the village are the producers of the products we consume. Here in town we have the skills, technology and expertise to help them improve on their products and get market for them,” said Habimana. "Today, we are establishing a partnership between Kigabiro Sector in Rwamagana district, with Kamukina cell in Kimihurura sector but prior to this, we linked Busasamana sector of Rubavu District with Rugando cell,” said Sheikh Habimana. He added that another linkage that was made was of Mukingo sector in Nyanza district with Kimihurura cell. "This form of partnership will help people from the rural sectors develop at the same pace with those in urban areas, and the way we are doing this is encouraging our children who are educated to invest and run businesses in those areas,” said the former Mufti. Mapambano Nyiridandi, in charge of good governance in the RPF-Kimihurura Committee said the initiative is part of the preparations for the celebration of RPF’s 25th anniversary scheduled for December this year. "Besides that, there are a lot of achievements that we are highlighting, and these partly include a three-kilometre long stretch of street lights sponsored by the party members resident in Kimihurura sector, and which we will unveil soon,” said Nyiridandi. He added that the series of events that they are holding are also aimed at reminding party members about the core values of the party.
