Kigali is arguably one of the cleanest cities on the African continent. The New Times / John Mbanda.

Editor,This is with reference to an article in The New Times of July, 28, titled "Foreign Minister reassures development partners.”It is evident that various elements, groups and agencies who envy the tremendous progress Rwanda has been making over the last two decades keep trying their level best, every now and then, to bring the country into disrepute by resorting to all types of negative propoganda and smear campaigns to slow down the development process of this great country. The truth about Rwanda will, however, always prevail. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo very rightly remarked, some development partners for Rwandan have taken "hasty decisions based on flimsy evidence.”The move to freeze budget support came just as the Government of Rwanda was concluding discussions with the UN Group of Experts and had "comprehensively rebutted every one of the allegations with conclusive documentary evidence”. But the media has also quite distorted information. As the Dutch Ambassador to Rwanda, Albrecht Makken, admitted "it is unfortunate that the information published in the financial Times was distorted.” While the Government of Rwanda, under the able guidance and astute leadership of President Paul Kagame, continues to steer the nation in its pursuit of excellence, it is my firm belief that all storms will effectively weather; and no matter how much disruptive elements might try, the Rwandan flag will continue to fly high and victorious over this Land of a Thousand Hills and a Million Smiles !Clarence Fernandes
