Kiyovu Sports attacker Erisa Ssekisambu was left dejected after his penalty miss during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Sunrise in Nyagatare left their Primus National League title hopes in tatters.
The Mumena-based side was awarded a late spot kick that could have cancelled Sunrise’s lead to force at least a draw but the Ugandan striker shot it wide to the relief of not only the home side which went on to win the match 1-0 but also APR who climbed to the top of the table after beating Rwamagana 4-1.
"I am speechless; it&039;s a low moment in my career because we lost the top spot," Ssekisambu told Pulse Sports.
"Missing the penalty, which would have earned us a point, makes it even worse for a team that has waited 30 years to win the league."
Notwithstanding, the attacker still believes that football defies logic and, with God, there could be a turn around on the final match day.
"I believe God has a plan for us; we can still win the league on the season's final day," he noted.
Kiyovu dropped to second and trail APR on goal difference with just one game to go with the pair tied with 60 points.
The title won’t be decided until the final day of the league season slated May 28. The Green Baggies will host relegation-threatened Rutsiro while APR will visit Gorilla.
