RWANDA’s striking problem could soon be a thing of the past after the country’s leading football school, SEC Academy, set up a training clinic where young strikers will be taught the art of goal scoring. The clinic is conducted by SC. Kiyovu coach Baptiste Kayiranga.According to Augustin Munyandamusta, owner of the academy, the clinic, which at the moment it is limited to only Sec Academy players of ages between 15-18 years, runs three times a week at Kicuriko artificial turf."At the moment the clinic is limited to our players until we get more logistics to accommodate players from elsewhere,” Munyandamusta told this paper yesterday. The national team’s recent poor performances are partly due to poor form of strikers and a small pool of forwards to choose from. The striking clinic follows a goal keeping school which was set up by former Amavubi goal keeping coach Thomas Higiro. Some of the country’s leading strikers include Olivier Karekezi, Meddie Kagere, Bokota Labama and Dady Birori, who all seem to be at the wrong end of their careers hence need for a new generation.
