The Independent Institute of Lay Adventist of Kigali (INILAK) has announced plans to start offering Masters Degree Programmes in various disciplines. This was revealed on Friday by Richard Niyonkuru, the Vice Rector in charge of Administration and Finance during a press conference at the institute’s campus in Kicukiro District. He said that the plan to start offering masters degree courses follows a recent decision by the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) which wrote a letter to them granting permission to begin the post graduate programmes.According to him, they will begin with a Masters Degree in Business Administration in October this year, adding that early next year, other post graduate programmes which include Masters in Education, Development Studies and Criminal Law."Rwanda has registered tremendous increase in the number of students graduating at the tertiary level compared to the period before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Whereas the achievements signal the positive trend in the education sector, Rwanda still lags behind other EAC member states in terms of the number of people with post graduate degrees and it’s in this regard that INILAK wants to begin masters courses which will play a key role in bridging this gap,” Niyonkuru said. The institution recently introduced a new faculty of Environmental Studies and Niyonkuru said that this will enable the country to have more qualified personnel in the field of environmental management which he said would help in the fight against disasters.
