A US-based international development and humanitarian aid organisation, CHF International, is presently assisting over 72,000 families (approximately 300,000 individuals) to overcome poverty and improve their livelihoods by improving their social, economic, agricultural and environmental conditions, according to Milton Funes, the Chief of Party for one of CHF’s projects, USAID/HIGA UBEHO. The organisation, which operates in over 100 countries, has been in the country since 2005."USAID/HIGA UBEHO, which is one of CHF’s programmes in Rwanda, has helped orphans and other vulnerable people in 20 of Rwanda’s districts under the five year PEPFAR funded programme. We are also working towards reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS,” Funes said. PEPFAR is the US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR/Emergency Plan).Speaking during celebrations to mark the organisation’s 60th anniversary on Wednesday, Funes noted that they are also working to improve access to quality healthcare, nutritional, economic, and educational and social services by boosting the capacity of local governments and civil society. He added that CHF International’s main goal currently is to build the capacity of local organisations to take over its programmes in future.According to the Chief of Party, the other target is to scale up their programmes in 23 districts, including Ejo Heza.Ejo Heza aims to improve the livelihoods and food consumption of 75,000 vulnerable people, especially women. So far, the organisation has benefited over 40,000 vulnerable children with scholastic materials and clinical services through some of its programmes.CHF International also works closely with Population Services International, CARE International, PEPFAR, Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion and Ministry of Agriculture among many others.
