BUGESERA—Fatal accidents in Bugesera district involving children continue to be a problem.
The most recent accident involved a child of four years who was hit by a speeding vehicle (registration number RAA 182J) in Ntarama sector on September 3 at 5.30 PM.
The deceased, Damascene Karemangingo was crossing the road at the time.
This is the second such accident in less than two month, the last one having been in August 3 in the same area that claimed a ten-year old child.
Police in Nyamata attributed the accident to negligence on the part of parents who do not ensure safety of the children while using the new tarmac road network.
Police appealed to parents to educate children on road safety tips by ensuring that children do not cross the highway where they don’t see properly along the road.
Three fatal accidents were reported last month by police to have occurred since the beginning of the year in the district. The latest brings the number to four.
