EAC chief to meet Rwandan business leaders

The Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Richard Sezibera, is scheduled to meet with chief executives of regional businesses operating in the country to discuss key challenges to the private sector.

The Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Richard Sezibera, is scheduled to meet with chief executives of regional businesses operating in the country to discuss key challenges to the private sector.Organised by Private Sector Federation (PSF) in partnership with the office of the Secretary General, East African Business Council (EABC) and TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), the meeting will be held at Kigali Serena Hotel on July 23."We will discuss with the Secretary General about the main challenges to businesses, so that the Rwandan context can be understood much better in the EAC integration process,” Hannington Namara, the CEO of PSF told The New Times yesterday."There are issues that have been a bottleneck to business for a long time including non tariff barriers to trade, adoption of regional standards, registration of companies and access to regional markets among others. These are some of the issues we shall discuss with the Secretary General in detail for the good spirit of the integration process.”The meeting will also be used as a platform to receive a broad update of the status and progress of the EAC regional integration process as well as present a prioritised list of key challenges facing the business community and proposals on how to address them.
