RUHANGO – Three people are held at Kinazi police post in Ruhango District over suspected murder of a 32-year-old woman.The lifeless body of Eugenie Mukanyandwi was found early on Monday after she had been seen on Sunday night drinking beer with the three men, according to police. The men are the prime suspects, a police officer said, adding that initial investigations suggest Mukanyandwi might have been murdered.The body was taken to Kinazi Hospital for post-mortem exams. The tests are also expected to establish whether the victim was raped or not. The suspects, also in their 30s, could, however, not be named as investigations are ongoing.Mukanyandwi is survived by two young children."People should understand that they cannot commit such acts and go unnoticed, "warned Police spokesman Supt. Theos Badege. "Cooperation between the police and residents is contributing a lot in identifying and arresting such criminals”.In a separate incident, a four-year-old boy died over the weekend in Nyaruguru District allegedly after being poisoned with a liquid substance, locally known as Simikombe.Eyewitnesses told this newspaper that the kid, Eric Matsiko, was found smelling the liquid.It is understood that the child was playing around a bar in which his parents were having a drink when he was reportedly given the Simikombe by an unidentified person. "He returned in the bar crying and smelling of Simikombe. We gave him milk and rushed him to the nearby health centre but in vain,” an eyewitness said.By press time, police were still investigating the incident.Meanwhile, one man died after consuming suspected contaminated pork last Sunday in Muhororo Cell, Ruhango District.The deceased was identified as Eugene Ngiruwonsanga, a shepherd for the Marist Brothers in Byimana Sector, Ruhango District.By press time, another victim, 12-year-old Joseph Ngendahimana was still hospitalised at Kabgayi hospital while four others, received treatment from a local health centre and later discharged.According to police, the pig died last Sunday and the Marist Brothers ordered the shepherd to bury it. Instead, with the help of a man posing as a veterinary doctor, Ngiruwonsanga butchered the pig and shared the meat with some area residents.By the time we went to press, the self-styled veterinary (names withheld) had been held and detained at Byimana police post.The Executive Secretary of Byimana Sector, JMV Nahayo, warned the public against consuming meat of dead animals. In another development, a six-year-old girl, Olive Iradukunda, died after falling off a tree last Sunday morning in Rugendabari Sector, Muhanga District.Iradukunda is said to have been collecting firewood when the accident occurred.Police condemned the incident saying the young Iradukunda was subjected to child labour which resulted in her untimely death.
