Editor,This revelation by Jean Marie Ntagwabira about match-fixing in the Primus National League is just a tip of iceberg. If investigated thoroughly, you could find that the local football federation has been plagued by such scandals more than the Italian Serie A. The only big and professional difference is that for Italy, such cases are often investigated by the Police and the culprits brought to book immediately. While in developed countries severe disciplinary measures are taken against the clubs involved (remember the case of Juventus), cases in the developing world take ages before they are settled if not swept under the carpet. This has negatively affected our football because we cannot bribe our way out when it comes to playing in regional and international championships. In our football federation, our semi-professional officials are just spectators and passive, so who will save us? Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for some Devine intervention. Ferwafa needs to prove critics wrong by launching sweeping and immediate investigations into Ntagwabira’s "revelations” in total transparency.David
