RWANDA Handball Federation still wait to hear from the ministry of Sport and Culture over their request of Rwf50 million to participate in the U-20 African Championships scheduled for August 26 to September 3 in Ivory Coast.The national women and men U-20 teams qualified for the African championship in the zone 5 games in Kenya in April after finishing second. Since the teams qualified, the federation tried to assemble in vain the amount required and now they put all their hopes on the sports ministry."We tried to raise the money required with our other stakeholders, but it has not been possible,” said the handball federation Permanent Secretary Anaclet Bagirishyain on Saturday.He added, "Until now, there is no concrete response from the ministry, but we are still waiting to hearing from them. This is an important championship requiring a lot of money that we can’t get [alone as the federation].” Nonetheless, the teams will start preparations for the African championship next week. Meanwhile, local handball coaches are undergoing a two-week training workshop at Amahoro stadium.According to the federation officials, the workshop will be a milestone to identify new coaches to compliment on the current number, which is no where near enough to satisfy the demand in different parts of the country, especially in schools. After the Kigali phase which will be concluded next weekend, Kamonyi and Rwamagana will be staging next phases of coach talent search.
